REGIONAL REPORTS Region 1 NO REPORT Region 2 (Tom Dean) October was a busy month in the region. October 3rd saw WACCO (Workmanship And Collectibiliity Classes Only) hosted by Jane Morehouse jn San Martin, This one day specialty show was enjoyed by all in attendance, and gave us an opportunity to show and see models that might not have made it to the more standard class lists we have been showing under in recent years. October 4th was the I F A D (I FEEL A DRAFT) show hosted by Victoria Zanutto in the same location. Draft horses in every scale and medium. Both of these shows had well designed classlists and some fierce competition. October 24th featured another new show, High Desert Halloween Live hosted by Dixie Duggan and Donna Anderson. Reports were that everyone who attended enjoyed themselves so much that they're already talking about next year. We closed out the month on the 31st with Spoiled Sports in Hayward, also hosted by Victoria Zanutto. This was truly a "backyard" show in Victoria's backyard similar in format to the I F A D drafter show earlier in the month. These smaller shows give those attending a chance to chat with friends in addition th showing models that might not make it to a larger show with fewer classes in a section. ****** Region 3 (Teresa Buzzell) October was a fairly busy month for Region 3 with 5 shows occurring in Colorado and Arizona. First up on the schedule was the weekend duo of Jailbreak Minis Amok and High Noon Performance Challenge, both held in Tucson on the first weekend in October. From the chatter on the local Yahoo Groups, they were enjoyable shows. The following weekend, Renee DeVore held an all china show/house warming party in her new place in Glendale. From the reports I saw, it was also a lovely time. I attended the October 3 show High Country Live held by Nancy Dement in Calhan. This was a new venue for all of us and was a surprisingly nice drive down from the Denver Metro area. (Although, I think the wind was a bit excessive - I had to go run down a china in his box that was heading for places unknown!) The hall was very nice and well lite with plenty of room for everything. Thanks again to Nancy for such a lovely day! (And to my carpool driver Heather R.) On Halloween was the return of the Crazy Ladies show held by myself and Regan O'Keefe in Parker, CO. This edition was all plastic collectiblity and workmanship for CMs and ARs with recycled ribbons and LOTS of loot to be won. By the show start, we had 9 entrants and the fun and frivolity began. The class entry numbers tended to be on the small size but the class list, trick or treat bags and prizes were enjoyed by all. Small numbers did not mean that the judges had an easy time judging either! No models were harmed by any sugar high their owners may have been suffering. The winner of the unpainted Lonestar resin with paint job by Sheila Bishop raffle was won by a shocked Ester Johnson. Ester is a regular raffle winner/supporter but it took her awhile for this one to sink in, like 3am the next morning! Some photos can be viewed, courtesy of Jennifer Buxton on her blog. I, as usual, brought my camera and never took any photos. Many thanks to all of those who braved the melting snow and sun to come out and stay tuned about the possibility of CL8 next year in all the usual places! Up for November: Spooky Turkey 2 - the revival held by Heather Roell in Boulder, CO November 21st. Double judged, this show is all CM/AR and does include some workmanship classes! Please see the NAMHSA website for contact information or the Redline Revival folder in the Colorado Hobbyist files section on Yahoo Groups. It should be a blast and I will be attending, as well as creating the certificates for the show. December: nothing in the works that I know of at this point in time other than enjoying the holiday season! ****** Region 4 (Carra McClelland) NO REPORT ****** Region 5 (Carmen Robertson) October was a busy month for us here in Region 5. We had several shows to choose from. First off on October 2nd we had two shows in one location. Red Mud Fling hosted by Jacklyn Catena-Hart and Red Mud Sling hosted by Liz Lavallee in Oklahoma City, OK. October 23rd was the Spookie Okie Party Show hosted by Lynn Yates in Oklahoma City, OK. The Sunflower Live Show Series #3 All Performance Show in Rose Hill, KS hosted by Gay Manlandt on October 24th. On October 30 & 31 we had the Breyer Lone Star Event in Fort Worth, TX. Even though it wasn't a show but still worth mentioning nonetheless! Several Region 5ers were lucky to be drawn for this event. It was nice to see many familiar Breyerfest faces too! A very nice reception at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame Museum on Friday night then the two farm tours at Carol Rose Quarter Horses and McQuay Stables on Saturday. Saturday night the Denim n' Diamonds Gala brought everyone out in their best western duds for an evening of fun. I had a blast and can't wait for the chance to attend another one. Upcoming shows in November are A Breyer Extravaganza in Arcola, TX hosted by Tara Jurica/Arcola Feed on November 7th. November 7 & 8 is BayouLand Live #15 in Lake Charles, LA hosted by Kim Janes Morgan. The longest running show in Louisiana is still going strong with lots of classes to enter should have something for everyone. The Red Dirt Roundup in Midwest City, OK hosted by Chris Nandell and Lori Batchelor on November 14 & 15. They will be having a swap and shop the night before on Friday so everyone be prepared for some shopping. The performance classes will feature 40 yes I said 40 classes per division! Of course there will be plenty of halter classes too. November 21st is Mid Ark Model Horse Expo in Greenbrier, AR hosted by Tracy Rogalla. This might very well be my last region report as the vote for our new regional rep is underway to finish out my term since I was elected treasurer a few months ago. I wish the new representative good luck. It has been a pleasure to serve as your rep and I wish you all happy trails! ****** Region 6 (Jackie Moore) Hello All, October in Region 6 means it's time for the Southern Model Horse Convention. This is the South's longest running model horse show, and is hosted the first Saturday of October by Laura Behning at her Morgan horse farm. This is always a great show, with a friendly, laid-back atmosphere, good food, and beautiful Morgan horses to watch throughout the day. This year was no exception, and the weather was perfect to boot! Our Region was also saddened to hear about the passing of Laura's mare, Reminiscing (Marie), on Oct 30, 2009. Our hearts all go out to Laura for her loss. On the calendar for November is Peach State Live in Gainesville, GA on Nov 7. Hostess Jennifer Bui says they have a sold out crowd, so it looks like it will be a great show (as usual). Also in Nov is a brand new show - Rockin' Redneck Roundup Live on Nov 28, hosted by Lori Daniels. We are all excited by this new show, and I'm sure it will be a blast! ****** Region 7 (Heather Jackson-Lain) October brought the final 2 shows of the season to region 7. Both were held October 10th at opposite ends of the region. The first show was the long running All American Quarter horse Congress show held in Columbus Oh by Kim Bjorgo-Throne and sponsored by The Peter Stone Company. I was unable to attend but heard that although the number of entrants was small the show went wonderfully and there were plenty of wonderful horses shown. Not to mention the surrounding excitement of the real Quarter Horses every where you turn. The second show was a brand new show held in Cookeville, TN by Kylee Demers. Cookeville Classic Live's freshman debut went off wonderfully. The show was a Breast Cancer Fundraiser and Kylee brought in $3000 to donate to the cause!!! The Atmosphere was great. The awards were plentiful and spectacular. The food was tasty. Everyone who attend (myself included) had a ball. There is one last Non NAMHSA approved show left for the region set for November 7th in Ohio. It is Dee Major's fall edition of Tri-State Live. Which I sadly won't be able to attend. Here is hoping everyone has a blast up north, while I head south for the winter LOL. After this last show region seven is set to fall into our winter lull. With the unpredictable weather we have here the shows don't pick up again til spring with the first one currently scheduled to be Model Horses Anonymous Live III April 10th 2010. ****** Region 8 (Marilou Mol) Hi,all! Region 8 got back to hosting shows in October, with three on offer for people to attend! The first show held was the Little Horse Show on October 3, 2009, in Shipshewana, Indiana. The show is an all-mini show hosted by the Stone Horses company. The coordinator was Sandy Cord, and I was able to attend. We had a great time! The models may be small, but there were plenty of special run models, tough competition, and enjoyment with friends! I think Sandy does a great job of hostessing, as well as Peter and Elaine and their employees, and everyone I talked to seemed to have a lot of fun! On October 10, the NWI Autumn Classic show was held in Merrillville, Indiana. This show was held by Heather Lettengarver. I was unable to attend, but I heard from some attendees that the show was very well-run and enjoyable. Some good competition, and hopefully this show will be held in 2010 also! Another new show this year was held on October 24, and was aptly named the "Halloween Horror Show" (because of the date, not the show!!!). I talked to a couple of people who attended, and they said the lake was absolutely beautiful (once it stopped raining!) and that the show was excellent! Karen Zorn held this show, and I'm sure it was well-organized and a good time! Hope to see many of you at upcoming shows. Have a great Holiday Season! ****** Region 9 (Pat Coulter) The busy Fall line up for Region 9 brought us two more shows, both of which I was pleased to attend. First was the ever popular 2 in 1 show, Intersport/Intermediare in Harrisburg, PA; held during "Junior Weekend" of the PA National Horse Show. It's always a hoot to see the looks on the faces of the stray "Big Eq" kid who wanders into the show hall! As always Didi Hornberger provided us with a wonderful hall, fantastic awards, a great pair of class lists and superb judging! On 10/24, we went to the mountains for the inaugural "Pocono Ponies Live", in White Haven, PA. LeeAnn held an absolutely fantastic "freshman" horse show. Yet again we were graced with great judging and fantastic awards, and I'm totally looking forward to next year already! It was also a treat to meet some folks for the first time, especially Jenn Danza who donated a lovely piece of stoneware as a prize for the China Division. November will bring us 3 more shows before the winter hibernation! ****** Region 10 (Valerie Parker) There were three shows in Region 10 in October - The North Shore Equine Miniaturist Expo, New England Performance Challenge, and the Hudson Valley Fall Classic. I did not personally attend any of these shows, but from reading the reports on the shows it sounds like there was good competition and well-run shows, even if attendance was a bit light. The Region is now gearing up for Region 10 Regionals the first weekend of November. ****** Region 11 (Sandra Gibson) Region 11's show report this month is filled both with joy & sadness. We had one non-NAN qualifying show, which was meant to be a celebration of the life of Lisa Salamandick. This show was Pink Moose Live, I am not certain on the final tally of the show, but I have heard that it raised over 1000 dollars for the institute that helped Lisa with her battle with Cancer. And on November 10, 2009, Lisa Salamandick passed away. She was a former voter for NAMHSA having hosted shows and had attended NAN 2 or 3 times in the past couple of years. She was an amazingly talented woman, her costumes were a blessing to the hobby. She prided herself in encouraging young hobbyists & promoting performance shows. She had an awesome sense of humor & was always good for a laugh. For the past year and a half she had braved cancer. She fought gracefully & the hobbyists in my region have been so proud of her. It was an honor getting to know her and the shows will be a quieter place & emptier place without her. She leaves behind her amazing mother, Jan, who also attended NAN with her and who has been a standard in our shows here in Alberta, along with her brother. We will all miss her. Whenever a tassel on a costume blows out of place, that will be Lisa. Posted by Pauline Entin, NAMHSA PR 12/10/2009 | |
