NAMHSA - October 1-15, 2010 News

NAMHSA News for the period of October 1-15, 2010 based on the minutes compiled by Bobbi Devine, Recording Secretary

OCTOBER 1
--Discussion continued regarding a bounced check issue. The bounced check was paid (covered) by the check writer within two days of notification. The NAMHSA Treasurer (Carmen Robertson) noted that it took longer than usual for the bounced check to come to her attention because she was not able to deposit the check for ~20 days after its receipt. The delay stems from the fact that the nearest Bank of America (where NAMHSA has its account) is about a 30 mile trip for Carmen.

--After further discussion, the Board agreed that the Show Member Secretaries would enforce the policy that requires that both show applications and payment be received by the 60 day deadline, or a show could not be approved.

OCTOBER 3
--Bobbi Devine (Recording Secretary submitted the September 15-30, 2010 minutes report. These were approved with amendments on September 13.

--Marilou Mol (Region 8 Representative) posted that she had discussed options for allowing late application submissions with the Show Membership Secretaries and suggested that it may be time to reopen discussion for putting a policy in place.

REGIONAL REPORTS
Region 1 (Tracy Eilers)
September was a lovely month with two shows here in the Pacific Northwest. Sarah Tregay had her Appaloosa Country show over in Boise, ID and all reports have been that entrants had a wonderful time. Our annual Rose City Live was also held in Portland, OR and the hostesses Vicki and Amy put on a great event.
October brings us some colder temperatures and the start of the rainy season, but that won't stop us from holding a few more shows before the start of the holidays! Check out our lineup for this month!
-October 16, 2010: TVMHC All Mini Show in Boise, ID
-October 16, 2010: Tri Cities Fall Classic Model Horse Show in Pasco, WA
-October 30, 2010: Spooky Live in St Helens, OR
Happy Horsey Halloween!

Region 2 (Tom Dean)
September 18th brought us Mini-Mayhem hosted by Chris Jones, followed by Three Ring Circus hosted by Robin Kent and Marie Sobieski on the 19th. Both were held in San Martin and featured highly competitive classes. It was great to chat with old and new friends, as well as get some of our models back in the fray. September 25th brought us Santa Ynez Pony Play Day in Santa Ynez hosted by Linn Kinsky. Did not have a report on this show but trust that all in attendance had a good day. The 25th and 26th also featured So-Cal Showdown Series - Ridgecrest by Jacquie Fernandez. From all reports, well organized and greatly enjoyed by all in attendance.

Region 3 (Teresa Buzzell)
September was a busy month for those of us in Region 3 with three shows in Colorado and another in Arizona. First up was Red Devil Live OF Stone/China plus CMG - or, RDL 2 held in Golden, CO on Sept 4 by Teresa Fedak. As always, it was great fun to see old friends, new purchases and a generous class list. And, the generous class list just got more and more generous with some judicious class splitting. I kept myself even more busy than normal by scribing for the china classes - which also gave me prime drooling positioning!
The following weekend, a bunch of us made the trek up the mountains to Rocky Mountain Rendezvous, our annual Stone show held in the Rocky Mountain National Forest. This was the fifth show in five weekend for me, but it didn't even feel like it. From the BBQ on Friday night to the backed up toilet in the judge's cabin on Sunday am and everything in between, it was a great weekend for all involved. I had the pleasure of judging everything clinky, which is always a lot of fun, and show in everything else. And, I managed to come home with a trophy in the performance division - which was hard fought between just two of us crazy people! Mega congrats for newbie show host, Jim West. He even signed on for next year - so with all the class tweaks talked about, it should be even better next year!

On September 18, the Tucson show OSC: Stock Horse Classic was held. From the chatter I heard, it was a lot of fun and a great success. Unfortunately, I did not see any photo links to share! Last, but not least, for the month was the Redline Revival OF Mini show in Jim West's house in Colorado Springs. A few of us made the trek to Jim's house - which held a host of "other" things to do besides pay attention to the judges around the kitchen table (aka show ring)! I must admit to making more than a few treks to the basement to play on the full size pinball machines... And, I can say first hand that the house was clean and tidy and Jim (and others in the area) are excellent cooks as we potlucked for lunch. And, in case anyone is curious, I made chocolate chip cookie dough truffles. Thanks much again to Jim for opening up upstairs, downstairs and in between to us! (Rumor has it that more small "Jim's house" shows will be occurring next year!)

Upcoming for October:
Crazy Ladies Love Clinkies, Oct 23 in Westminster, CO. Contact me if you're interested - we have room!
OSC: Tucson Mountain Live, Oct 30 in Tucson. Contact Pat McDonald for more information. (Contact info on namhsa.org)

Region 4 (Carra McClelland)
September was a quietly fabulous month in Region 4. Our weather is getting cooler, football started and the leaves have begun to change. Many of us are acquiring new horses to show and already talking about the spring show season! September 25 saw Party on the Platte in Ashland Nebraska! A good time was had by all, including a MASSIVE pot luck lunch on show day and a drop in by an adorable baby boy! We were lucky to have EL from Chicago as one of our judges!

November brings 2 shows our way:
November 13, 2010: Dream Acres Live Model Show in Parkersburg, IA. Contact: Letrisha Wise.
November 20, 2010: Crystal Creek Rider's Show in Randolph, WI. Contact: Kathy Gunderson

Region 5 (Lori Batchelor)
September brought the return of Red River Live in Gainesville, Texas on Labor Day weekend. A great show at a really unique setting. Then on September 18 Mid Kansas was held just outside of Wichita, Ks. October will bring us Cajun Country Live in Vinton, LA on October 9&10. And then the Model Horse Expo in Wichita Falls, TX on October 16. Looking forward to November, there will be the Red Dirt Roundup in Midwest City, OK on November 13 &14 followed by the Mid-Ark Model Horse Expo in Greenbrier, Arkansas on November 20.
So if you are in or near Region five this fall, you can't say there isn't a show somewhere near you!
Hope to see a lot of you out showing!

Region 6 (Jackie Moore)
Hello All!
Heart of Carolina Live was held on Sept 18 in Cary, NC. Hostess April Pack put on another great show, and the competition was described as "friendly but fierce." By the reports of the youth division, the future of the hobby is bright in NC! At the time of this report, The 23rd annual Southern Model Horse Convention has already taken place in Covington, GA, but I will leave that show report for the October Region report. :)
Next up on the calendar is Peach State Live in Gainesville, GA on November 13, and Rockin' Redneck Roundup Live in Kissimmee, FL on November 27.

Region 7 (Heather Jackson-Lain)
September finds region 7 still with no shows for another month. Next shows start up in October with the All American Quarter Horse Congress Live in Columbus Ohio on October 9th hosted by Kim Bjorgo-Thorne.
Quickly followed by the second annual Cookeville Classic Live (2010 MSOTY hosted by Kylee Demers on October 16th in Cookeville Tn.
I hope to see lots of friends both new and old at both shows.

Region 8 (Marilou Mol)
Hi, all!
September was a busy month in Region 8! The first show was Meows & Minis, held on September 11 in Itasca, Illinois. The show is hosted by Chris Wallbruch and is a benefit for the Cat Guardians No-Kill shelter. Always a fun time, Meows & Minis features wonderful and plentiful donations, stiff competition, and a lot of fun! A record $3000 was raised for the kitties. Way to go, Chris!
September 18 was the date for the Great Lakes Congress No Frills Stone Specialty Show, held in Huntley, Illinois. GLC regularly hosts No-Frills shows, which use recycled ribbons and are a fundraiser show for the club and the "big" show. For this specialty show, any OF plastic model shown was a Stone Horse. The competition was tough and fun, and the entrants were able to buy new Stone models direct from Stone Horses and Breyer models from Bentley Sales.
The Fall Show in Osseo, Michigan, was held on September 25. The show was hosted by Silke Brockmoeller, and while I was unable to make it to this one, I can vouch for the fact that any show held by Silke will be well-run and enjoyable to attend!
Also in September, the Michigan UP Equifest held its annual horse show event. Always well attended, the model show is hosted by Adonica Badura in Escanaba. I always hear that this show is huge and is excellent publicity for our hobby!
October appears to be pretty quiet in Region 8, but as I write this, the weather is beautiful! Enjoy!
