NAMHSA - July 16-31, 2012 News
NAMHSA News for the period of July 16-31, 2012 based on the minutes compiled by Bobbi Devine and Jackie Arns-Rossi, Recording Secretary. JULY 16 --Bobbi Devine (Recording Secretary) posted the July 1-15, 2012 minutes report. These were approved by Teresa Buzzell (Vice President)) on July 16, 2012. JULY 17 --Teresa Buzzell (Vice President) requested Teresa Candelaria (Public Relations) to draft posts regarding the NAN 2013 location announcement and the MSOTY winner announcement. JULY 21 --Jackie Moore (R6) presented a proposal to the Board to consider allowing fantasy equines (pegasi/unicorns, etc) to earn NAN cards in workmanship. --Tracy Eilers (R1) added to Jackie Moore's request to also consider medallions in Workmanship. She also proposed to extend the time that NAN cards would be valid, and to consider adding to the NAN MGC (minimum guaranteed classlist) classes for OOAK and very small run models. JULY 23 --Carra McClelland (R4/NAN Co-Chair) asked for verification that NAN Champ photos can be used by the public as long as they give credit for the photos. Teresa Buzzell (President) confirmed that this is permissible. --Silke Brockmoeller (former President) posted a thank you to all Board members. --Lindsey Hall (Vice President) posted that she has almost all of the champ photos for NAN uploaded. Stacy Faraci (R7/NAN Co-Chair) suggested that a page be added to the website thanking all the NAN staff and volunteers individually for their hard work. Lynn Weber (Web Administrator) asked for a list of names. JULY 24 --Teresa Buzzell (President) posted some opening thoughts and requests for the beginning of her presidential term. -- Lynn Weber (Web Administrator) requested oncoming board members supply their preferred email addresses to update the website. -- Various BOD members posted their ideal goals for NAMHSA for the next year. JULY 25 -- BOD members continued posting goals for NAMHSA for the next year. -- Stacy Faraci (R7) requested that an announcement concerning rosettes be placed on the website and sent to the email groups. Lynn Weber (Web) added the suggested announcement. Teresa Candelaria (Public Relations) said she would work on a draft for the email groups. JULY 26 -- BOD members continued posting goals for NAMHSA for the next year. This list of goals eventually included extending the life of NAN cards, a national database, year round fundraising/fundraising position, adding Fantasy animals and/or medallions in workmanship, improving youth/novice involvement in the organization, improving social media presence of the organization, expanding the Merit Awards (including having a NAN qualification automatically count to an MA), better defining the Independent NAN, enacting and enforcing rules for show results and NAN cards, considering sanctions, Code of Conduct, changing the culture on NAHMSA-Discussion, making a permanent set MGC that does not vary year to year, and releasing more financial information to the general hobby public. -- Teresa Candelaria (Public Relations) posted a draft for the rosette announcement. A brief discussion ensued about the ribbons running out. The announcement was approved for posting by Teresa Buzzell (President) and sent to email lists the same day. -- Teresa Candelaria (Public Relations) forwarded an email from the Association of Collecting Clubs and asked if this was something that NAMHSA should be a part of. -- Teresa Buzzell (President) posted a request to work on the fundraising coordinator position. -- Discussion continued on goals BOD members wanted to achieve this year, including fantasy equines being eligible for NAN qualification in workmanship and collectability. -- Jackie Arns-Rossi (RS) motioned to accept Niki and Jackie Hertzog as NAN chairs (Niki and Jackie H. were named as potential chairs in the 2013 NAN bid for Harrisburg PA). While the motion did get a second, it was ultimately dropped until a resume from the potential chairs could be reviewed by the BOD. -- Discussion about improving NAMHSA's internet presence with FaceBook and Twitter accounts and setting up a blog on the website to host the News occurred. JULY 27 -- Teresa Candelaria (Public Relations) posted a question about when approved shows were posted to the News. Carra McClelland (R4) confirmed that shows were posted to the News as they were approved. -- Some discussion occurred about the correct way to set up the NAMHSA FaceBook page (it should be an organizational page, not a personal or fan page). -- Carmen Robertson (Treasurer) posted the Second Quarter Report. Lynn Weber (Web Administrator) asked for a clarification prior to posting the report to the website. JULY 28 -- Carmen Robertson (Treasurer) reposted the Second Quarter report after fixing a typo. -- Additional discussion about accepting a proposal to allow fantasy animals to earn NAN cards in workmanship. JULY 29 -- Lindsey Hall (Vice President) posted that she uploaded additional photos from NAN to a Webshots album. The link for the album is http://www.webshots.com/user/MoreNANphotos and people can view a slideshow. Lyn Norbury (R5) asked about getting missing photos from the NAN results up to the website. Lindsey said she had about 30 left that had tag numbers that were difficult to read. -- Ongoing discussion about fantasy equines -- Lyn Norbury (R5) asked about posting detailed financial information to the Regional Yahoogroups. Lynn Weber (Web) replied the reports are posted to the website as soon as they are given to the BOD. Lyn Norbury requested posting more detailed information. --Lyn Norbury (R5) requested procedural clarification on having an open motion. Eleanor Harvey (Parliamentarian) reviewed procedure: "A motion on the floor takes precedence over all other discussions. The President and Vice President can ask to set aside that discussion if they feel there is another issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible, but otherwise the floor is reserved for the motion at hand." Lyn Norbury asked that the current motion (to accept the Hertzogs as NAN chairs for 2013) be formally tabled pending their resume. Teresa Buzzell (President) advised she had contacted Niki Hertzog for a resume and that discussion would resume when she got that. The NAN chair post would not be advertised until the Hertzogs’ resume had been reviewed. JULY 30 --Teresa Buzzell (President) posted Niki Hertzog's resume for NAN chair. She also advised that given the time frame for planning a June NAN, comment and review of the resume should take place by Wednesday evening at the latest, with a plan for a vote over the weekend. Discussion began immediately. -- Carra McClelland (R4) advised she was working in revising some of the entrant documentation for NAN entry, to make things more easily understood.
