NAMHSA - May 16-31, 2013 News
NAMHSA News for the period of May 16-31, 2013 based on the minutes compiled by Jackie Arns-Rossi, Recording Secretary. MAY 16 -------------------------------------------------- Carra McClelland forwarded an email from a Region 5 member advising that Lyn Norbury was having difficulty with email. Natalie Kilpatrick advised that she had setup a new email account to deal with NAMHSA things and asked Lynn Weber to redirect the PR email address to this new email account, which she promptly took care of. Kathy Williams advised the BOD that she would be out of town for the weekend. Teresa Buzzell asked Beth Lamm to present her ideas for new Merit Awards. This would be posted on May 20th. Teresa Buzzell asked Natalie Kilpatrick to draft a post seeking out members for the National Tagging System Committee. A draft was posted later in the day. MAY 17 -------------------------------------------------- Eleanor Harvey advised she would be unavailable through Memorial Day. Lyn Norbury advised that she was back online and catching up on email. Jackie Arns-Rossi posted the results of the election. The Fantasy Equine Proposal passed, which, in turn, passed the bylaw and emergency changes which went into effect immediately. Tom Dean was voted the new Vice President of NAMHSA. New Representatives are Stacy Quick (1), Pauline Entin (3), Lyn Norbury (5) and Niki Hertzog (9). There were no candidates for Regions 7 and 11. Jackie notified the defeated opponents of the election results at Theresa Buzzell's request. Beth Lamm was contacted by Gary at Auld's. Gary lost his contact information for Niki Hertzog and requested that she contact him regarding NAN trophies. Carra McClelland forwarded the request to Niki. Chris Wallbruch was only missing a member from Region 1 for the MSOTY Committee and asked Tracy Eilers was asked to assist in locating someone. MAY 18 -------------------------------------------------- Natalie Kilpatrick posted a draft of the 2013 Spring Election Results announcement. MAY 19 -------------------------------------------------- Eleanor Harvey advised she would be away from her email until Friday. Natalie Kilpatrick posted a second draft of the 2013 Spring Election Results which was approved on May 20th by Teresa Buzzell. She also posted a second draft of a post seeking out members for the National Tagging System, which was also approved on May 20th. MAY 20 -------------------------------------------------- Teresa Buzzell asked Jackie Arns-Rossi to forward the email addresses of the new BOD members so that they could be added to the BOD Yahoo! Group in a read-only status. Beth Lamm suggested another Merit Award Drive at NAN, of which Teresa Buzzell and Carra McClelland agreed would be a good idea. Beth also posted ideas for additional merit awards including Hall of Champions Award and Supreme Hall of Fame Award. Hall of Champions Award - Minimum 50 NAN Cards in 1 Division (either Halter/Workmanship or Performance) Supreme Hall of Fame Award - Minimum 75 NAN Cards in 1 Division (either Halter/Workmanship or Performance) After asking for input from the BOD, Lyn Norbury suggested a higher level versatility award, in which Beth replied suggesting a Supreme Versatility Award with a 50 cards, minimum of 20 in Halter/Workmanship and a minimum of 20 in Performance. Lynn Weber added that she would like to see an award level for 30-35 cards as well noting that the current high end awards are 12-18 cards. Pat Coulter suggested and award plaque that would allow multiple awards on one backing. Lyn Norbury asked if this would cut into profits from the Merit Awards program, to which Lynn Weber replied that the program currently doesn't make much money. Teresa Buzzell confirmed that the Merit Awards program breaks even and that the winners cover the costs for the awards. MAY 21 -------------------------------------------------- Amy Peck posted the list of newly approved shows. Jackie Arns-Rossi advised that she would have minutes done that night. In addition, she had two people interested in the Region 7 position. She contacted both parties to see if they were still interested in running or if one would drop out. Chris Wallbruch asked if there was a Region 1 member interested in the MSOTY committee. Amy Peck offered to serve in that role since nobody else had expressed interest. MAY 22 -------------------------------------------------- Jackie Arns-Rossi posted the May 1-15 minutes for approval, which were approved the next day by Teresa Buzzell. MAY 23 -------------------------------------------------- Natalie Kilpatrick posted a draft of the April 16-30 News. She also reported that she planned on posting regular messages on the email lists once a month to promote the Facebook page. Teresa Buzzell asked her to also make posts for the NAMHSA Cafe Press Store and NAMHSA Blog. Teresa Buzzell asked Beth Lamm for a recap of the Merit Awards' new levels. MAY 24 -------------------------------------------------- Kathy Williams advised she would be out of town at a show for the weekend. Teresa Buzzell advised that she had 4 interested parties in the tagging committee; 3 from the east and 1 from the west. Discussion ensued regarding the applicants. MAY 25 -------------------------------------------------- Natalie Kilpatrick posted another draft of the April 1-15 News. Teresa Buzzell advised that she had more interested parties in the tagging committee. Further discussions ensued on the BOD list. Teresa decided to leave the invitation for new members open through Sunday night. MAY 26 -------------------------------------------------- Chris Wallbruch advised that she had all but one person sign up for the MSOTY listserv; a person from Region 4. Chris asked Natalie Kilpatrick to send a friendly bump to the member reminding her to join, which she did. She noted that Amy Peck would be forwarding nominees to her and asked the following: 1. what is the deadline to get you the name of the winner? In the past, the trophy has been ordered and presented at NAN. 2. Should Natalie send out a quick blitz of emails soliciting people to submit essays on shows they wish to win? MAY 27 -------------------------------------------------- Teresa Buzzell asked Beth Lamm if she had an announcement about the Merit Award Drive at NAN. Beth asked if Natalie Kilpatrick would draft something. Lynn Weber posted a link with the 2012 announcement which Natalie edited for 2013 and sent out. MAY 28 -------------------------------------------------- Lyn Norbury requested that the Public Relations perso n sign her public posts as there was confusion as to where they were coming from. Natalie Kilpatrick responded that typical press releases that bypassed media outlets did not contain PR contact information. Pauline Entin reported that she often signed her posts with her name. Teresa Buzzell asked Pat Coulter for an update on the NAN Raffle. Natalie Kilpatrick advised that she was moving on short notice and wasn't sure when her internet would be turned off/back on, but that she would have her phone for keeping up. Teresa Buzzell approved the April 16-30 News with some edits, but asked that Natalie Kilpatrick not post them until the April 1-15 news was approved. Lyn Norbury asked to see an updated draft of the April 16-30 News prior to posting it. MAY 29 -------------------------------------------------- No News to Report MAY 30 -------------------------------------------------- No News to Report MAY 31 -------------------------------------------------- Pauline Entin advised that she would be out of town Saturday through Wednesday. The show season in Region 3 got off to a relatively late start with the Tucson Outlaws' annual Jewel Heist Live on April 27 and 28 hosted by Lauren Hoeffer. This year the show was held in Mesa, Arizona, which is just East of Phoenix. I had planned to attend but to my disappointment wasn't able to make that happen. Reports from the show praised the new venue which was spacious and provided a lot of natural light. Convenience was also a plus as there was a nice bar and restaurant located right outside the show hall. Patty Francis from California won a Breyer Wapiti in the rafflle. The show ran smoothly (as Lauren's shows always do!) and a fun time was had by all. Atypically, there were only two shows in the region between January and the end of the show year (April 30), both in Arizona. At present, only four shows are planned for summer, 2013 in the expansive four corners of Region3. The next show in the region will be in Colorado, the Stone show Springamathing on May 25 in Golden. The action will then shift 900 miles Southwest to Tucson in June, for the High Noon All Performance show on June 15. In August, shows are planned in Colorado and Utah. Red Devil Live All OF Plastic will be held on August 3 in Golden, CO and 500 miles to the West, Pioneer Classic on August 17 in Provo, UT. Hopefully we'll see an uptick in member shows this fall. I am fortunate I was able to negotiate a Sat/Sun trip to NAN 2013. I look forward to seeing lovely people and beautiful models from multiples regions there (and maybe also some chocolate if I make it to Hershey)! Best of luck to everyone who will venture East for NAN 2013! REGION 4 All quiet on the central plains again, not many shows to report on. Mid-April saw The Pie Show held by Brenda Metcalf and, as always, Brenda was a spectacular hostess! Plenty of games, lots of raffle and auction items and, of course, lots of show horses! Unfortunately River Valley Live Model Horse Show Extreme Micro (Home) Edition #10 had to be cancelled and there is no rescheduled date at this time. Currently there are only 2 more scheduled shows for Region 4, M.O.M. Live in Black River Falls, WI on May 187 and Jackson County 4-H and Open Model Horse Show on October 12, 2013. Region 4 could really use some more live shows, so if you've ever considered hosting one, now's the time! It doesn't have to be elaborate or have expensive championship ribbons. As long as you have enough room to accompany a good number of exhibitors and their tables of plastic ponies you're set for a successful show! Contact me at region-4@... if you have any questions or are interested in hosting the next Region 4 show. REGION 5 No report. REGION 6 Hello All! Hollow Horse Live Test of a Halter Champion was held in Cumming, GA on April 13. This was a fantastic show with a very creative classlist. Kudos to show hostess Valerie Rice for another successful show! There are two fun shows scheduled for May - one in Gainesville, GA and one near Birmingham, AL. The next NAMHSA approved show in the region is MITS (Models In The Sunshine) on June 15 and 16. And there will be a few of us heading up to NAN in Harrisburg the following weekend! See y'all there! REGION 7 No report. REGION 8 April brought 3 great shows to Region 8, two of them on the same day! The April season kicked off on April 13th up in Michigan with the perennially popular show Plastic Ponies On Parade. Attendance was HUGE and the horses were gorgeous! Next up, April 20th was the day for the GLC Crew in Huntley, IL to put on another one of their extremely popular No Frills shows, this time with an ALL MINI show. I showed at this particular show and the competition was intense! It's great to see these specialty shows in the area. April 20th also brought in a fun show for our friends in Indiana - long time hobbyist Pat Reed held another one of her great IndyCon shows! By all accounts it was a fun and competitive day. No other shows are scheduled for the Spring season, but the summer and fall schedules are already filling up. See you at a Region 8 show soon! REGION 9 No report. REGION 10 Spring is in full swing in Region 10, with 4 shows held at the center of the little plastic horse universe-- Sterling, MA-- on the weekend of April 6th and 7th: Factory Ponies Live, China Buffett, NEMHC Summer Live and the Random Mini Show. As usual, the shows were a great success and fun and silliness abounded! On April 20th came the first Albany Halter Live, and a great time was had by all! On April 27th, followed the Quabbin Valley Performance Open, where the performance junkies had their day! Region 10 is now packing for NAN 2013 in Harrisburg, PA! Hope to see you or your proxies there in force! REGION 11 No report.
