NAMHSA - March 1-15, 2011 News

MARCH 1
--Bobbi Devine (Recording Secretary) submitted the February 16-28, 2011 minutes report. These were approved 3/15/11.

--Bobbi Devine announced that there was one nomination for Regional Representative for Regions 1, 5, 7, and 9, two nominations for Region 3, and thus far no nominations for Region 11. There is one nomination for VP.

--Bobbi Devine reminded the Board that the Pres/VP succession issue is still awaiting finalization. Teresa Buzzell (Region 3 Representative) also mentioned that progress needs to be made regarding her NAN 2011 raffle proposal.

MARCH 3
--Gail Schuenemann (Show Member Secretary) posted that she received a revised application, naming a new showholder, for a show that had not yet been approved. Gail noted that the website for the show still listed the original showholder, and this was a problem as there were indications that the original showholder planned to show at the show. The Board consensus was that Gail should remind the showholder that the show website must be updated, and to reiterate that the orginal showholder may not be involved in the management of the show if she intends to show at the show. It was further advised that if a violation of NAMHSA's rules occurs, the show's membership status will be revoked and any NAN cards awarded at the show will be voided.

MARCH 7
--Eleanor Harvey (Parliamentarian) encouraged all reps to gather feedback from their respective regions regarding the Pres/VP succession issue. (President Jackie Arns-Rossi was out sick this week.)

--Eleanor Harvey also requested Pauline Entin (Public Relations) to begin the preliminary solicitations for the NAN 2012 Chair and Registrar positions.

--Eleanor Harvey posted that as no progress had been made on resolution of the NAN 2010 Auction and Raffle issues, she would like the contact information for NAMHSA's attorney. She asked Tom Dean (Region 2 Representative) if he had received the Hagen Renaker Auction lot from Lauren Wood. She also asked Jackie Moore (Region 6 Representative) if the R6 raffle basket had been received by April Pack.

--Carra McClelland (Region 4 Representative) posted an update regarding an inquiry with the Lexington, KY Police Department regarding the NAN 2010 Auction and Raffle resolution. The contact in Lexington advised that any action would be better handled by the Corvalis, Oregon Police Department.

--Pauline Entin relayed the attorney contact information.

--Jackie Moore said that the tracking information showed the R6 basket had been delivered. She said she would confirm with the recipient over the weekend.

--Tom Dean posted that he had not yet received the Hagen Renaker Auction lot, nor did he have any tracking information.

MARCH 10
--Jackie Moore reminded the Board that time is running out for discussing the NAN 2011 Raffle.

MARCH 11
--Sandra Gibson (Region 11 Representative) forwarded a link from Model Horse Sales Pages showing a winged horse with a NAN card. Discussion ensued regarding the differences between custom decorators and mythical creatures and the eligibility requirements for NAN qualification.

--Eleanor Harvey posted the most recent Board ruling on Mythical/Fantasy creatures, as well as medallions, and NAN qualification:

Fantasty Equines:
"In October 2007, the NAMHSA Board received a petition to make fantasy equines eligible to show at NAN. Under current (original) NAMHSA policies, neither fantasy animals nor non-equines are eligible for NAN qualification. After extensive discussion, the NAMHSA Board voted 11-1 to continue the current policy of disallowing NAN qualifying status for fantasy animals. The Board felt that inability to define what constitutes a fantasy *equine*, as well as other issues, were prohibitive problems at this time. The Board thanks the petitioners for taking the time to formalize their request and encourages them to consider forming an organization specifically for the promotion and showing of these models."

Medallions:
"The NAMHSA Board also addressed the eligibility of medallions for NAN qualification. Medallions are defined as objects that either are not three dimensional or depict only part of a horse (e.g., just the head and neck). The Board ruled that medallions are NOT eligible for NAN qualification nor to show at NAN in any division."

"Fantasy equines, other animals, and medallions may continue to show in "fun", NON-NAN qualifying classes at NAMHSA member shows at the showholder's discretion."

MARCH 14
--Carmen Robertson (Treasurer) posted the new PO box address for NAMHSA:

NAMHSA
PO Box 1271
Decatur, TX 76234

MARCH 15
--Jackie Arns-Rossi posted that she is back and is catching up on BoD events. She stated that she would call NAMHSA's attorney today regarding the NAN 2010 Auction and Raffle matter. She would also add Stacy Becker, the NAN 2011 Sponsorship Chair to the NAN group that day. She requested the following to be done:

-for Teresa Buzzell to repost the 2011 NAN Raffle proposal
-for the hobby broadcast of the new NAMHSA address

Jackie reminded the Board that the Pres/VP issue is something that the entire group needs to decide upon.

--Jackie Arns-Rossi announced that Danielle Miller (Individual Membership Secretary) would be stepping down due to demands of a new job and impending move. A new IMS will need to be located ASAP. She thanked Danielle for the hard work she put into updating and maintaining the program.

--Lynn Weber (Web Manager) noted that she had changed the address on the NAMHSA website, and would go through all the pdfs later and change as needed.

--Pauline Entin requested that Danielle Miller post a job description for the Individual Membership Secretary position.

--Pauline Entin presented a draft NAN 2012 Chair solicitation and invited review.

--Bobbi Devine posted that she had not received any nominations for Region 11 Representative and asked for suggestions.

Region 2 (Tom Dean)
February 13th saw the annual presentation of Eureka Live in Santa Barbara. Sponsored by Stone Horses and hosted by Sharon and Harvey Stone, this well run show gave us a chance to 'catch up' with our southern friends(and qualify a model or two for Tucson).

Looking forward, 2 shows in March, High Desert Leprechaun Live in Ridgecrest on the 12th and Fragile Follies in Herald on the 26th. April will be a busy month for all with 4 shows offering last minute NAN qualifying opportunities.

Region 3 (Teresa Buzzell)
February was a bit more busy on the model horse front in Region 3 with 3 shows being held in the region. First up was the return of Nancy Dement's Little Guys Live Show in Colorado Springs. Jim West graciously allowed us to invade his house once again. Snow threatened all afternoon and did fall in the evening, making driving home a bit more difficult than necessary. (And more of a mental exercise than usual too!) However, everyone made it back just fine and fun was had by all.

Next up was a two-fer deal with Arizona Spring Fest and Jewel Heist Live being held on the same weekend and at the same hall in Phoenix. I was unable to attend but heard great things about the shows and a lot of on line meatball voting went on for some unique fund raising! Congrats to first time show holder Sommer Prosser and Lauren Hoeffer on their outstanding success!

Upcoming shows:

March:
March 5 Blue Skies Live, Calhan, CO - held as of this report
March 19 OSC: Last Chance Showdown Open Performance Show in Tucson, AZ, held by Deb Ash.

April:
April 10, 2011: Spring China Fling in Glendale, AZ held by Renee DeVore.
April 23, 2011: Arizona Live in Scottsdale, AZ held by Teresa Candelaria.

And also on March 26, 2011, Tri State Live in Maumee, OH, hosted by Dee Majors. And then in April we have the 4 Leaf Clover Show in Xenia, OH on April 30, 2011 hosted by Lynn Rhea.

Region 8 (Marilou Mol)

Hi, all!

Region 8 began to come to life in February, with the Great Lakes Congress No Frills show on February 19 in Huntley, Illinois. Great Lakes Congress is an educational not-for-profit, and in keeping with their mission, has begun a series of youth-only shows, advertised at local toy, hobby, and farm stores. The number of youth entrants has grown significantly! While the youth shows are not NAN-qualifiers, the open show on February 19 was, and a turnout of almost 30 entrants crowded into the Huntley Park District. I was able to attend, and enjoyed seeing friends and meeting new exhibitors.

Things really liven up in Region 8 in March, April, and May, as we enjoy shows in Michigan, Missouri, and Indiana as well as Illinois.

Region 9 (Pat Coulter)

February brought us two shows on the weekend of the 12t-13th!! In MD we had the 6th Annual Sea to Bay Model Horse Club Show in Pocomoke. In PA, there was the Berks Saddle-ites 2nd Annual Model Horse Show. Much like the rest of the attendees, I found it a hard decision to make when deciding which to choose! Both shows were well attended and recieved.

On a side note, it was great to see 2 ladies at the Berks show that made the trip all the way from NY to attend. (we really don't have cooties down here) Amanda and Lilla, come back soon!
