NAMHSA - January 16-31, 2010 News
NAMHSA News for the period of January 16-31, 2010 based on the minutes compiled by Bobbi Devine, Recording Secretary. JANUARY 17 -Bobbi Devine (Recording Secretary) submitted the minutes report for January 1-15, 2010. -Bobbi Devine provided a count of replacement streamers needed for the purpose of refurbishing 2009 NAN rosettes. -Lindsey Hall (President) submitted the NAN 2011 bid solicitation for review. -Lindsey Hall posted regarding the 2010 NAN Sponsorship coordinator position. JANUARY 18 -Pauline Entin (NAN Steering Committee Chair) posted the following from the NAN Steering Committee: The following was the NAN Steering Committee's recommendation re: constraining NAN showhall (hall+tables+chairs) costs. Note that specific dollar amounts are specified, based on previous years' experience. "The Steering Committee also strongly recommends that the Board specify a maximum expenditure for the hall plus table and chair rental. The specific value for the maximum expenditure should be based on analysis of needs and past costs. For example, approximately $12,400 was spent on show hall plus table/chair rental in Portland in 2009, and approximately $10,700 was spent for the same in Lexington in 2008. Both the Portland and Heritage Hall (Lexington) facilities provide more square footage than is required for a non-Kentucky NAN. Thus, we strongly recommend that the Board cap the hall/table/chair expenditure at a set value between these amounts, and stress the importance of matching the size of the show hall and price to the needed size for a non-Kentucky NAN." So, for example, the bid solicitation could say: NAMHSA must strive to control the NAN budget. Past experience has shown that the showhall size needed for an independent NAN can be as low as 12,000 square feet and need not exceed 20,000 square feet. In keeping with the necessary showhall size, the budget for three day showhall rental plus any necessary table and chair rental must not exceed $12,000. Other related costs such as insurance, security, internet lines, PA system etc. may be extra. This is just an example - you can set a different top amount, you can word it differently, etc. JANUARY 20 -Susan Hurst (Merit Award Coordinator) requested Pauline Entin (PR) to post the December Merit Award Winners list. This was done. -Susan Hurst reminded everyone that January 20, 2010 is the official date of transition to the new Merit Award Coordinator, Jennie Kaech. The NAMHSA Board thanks Susan for her many years of service and dedicated work to make the Merit Award Program a success. JANUARY 21 -Lindsey Hall requested a poll be set up for the purpose of voting on the new website design. A poll was begun on January 23. JANUARY 23 -Pauline Entin (Public Relations) forwarded an inquiry from a hobbyist who lost her NAN cards and records due to a major accient at her home. The hobbyest wanted to know if the cards could be replaced. It was discussed and determined that the current rule of "no replacements" would be upheld. JANUARY 27 -Lindsey Hall asked for discussion to begin again on the prospect of having Youth classes at NAN. -Lindsey Hall posted that if there was no further discussion on the topic of the 2010 NAN Sponsorship Coordinator, that Bobbi shall set up a poll for voting. A poll was begun on January 28. -Gail Schuenemann (SMS) posted the latest Newly Approved Show listing. Welcome to the beginning of a brand New Year!
