NAN 2010

NAMHSA Regional Baskets

As part of the celebration of NAMHSA's 15th Anniversary in 2010, the NAN Auction committee has come up with a fun and innovative project to encourage more people to get involved with their local and regional groups and showcase the amazing variety of talent, resourcefulness, and merriment of the hobby at large.

We are inviting each and every NAMHSA Region to participate in the 2010 NAN Sweepstakes by creating a regional themed basket, showcasing to the rest of the hobby just what your area is about and what makes it special. You can interpret this challenge any way you please - creativity is absolutely necessary! The sweepstakes will take place during NAMHSA's 15th anniversary party, also featuring the NAN Auction, on Thursday, July 22nd at the Holiday Inn North in Lexington, KY.

These baskets will be included among the many amazing donations already offered and are the only items not required to be model horse related. That's right - you can put ANYTHING in these baskets that you think says something about your region: food, postcards, art, books, knickknacks, etc. There is no limit as to the size or quantity of items in your basket either. Perhaps Region 4 might include some tasty Wisconsin cheese samples, Region 2 might include a bottle of Napa Valley Wine, and Region 6 might include a piece of Disney memorabilia.

Naturally model horse related items are also encouraged; perhaps you'll have a variety of your region's artists submit a small piece of artwork or each painter do something different to the same stablemate mold. Or perhaps you'll decide on a theme related to your area: Region 3 might choose to do a Native American themed basket, and Region 5 might choose to something with stock horses or cowboys. Also, the container need not actually be a "basket". One region might choose to put everything in a rubbermaid tote, perfect for the winner to transport their new purchases from Breyerfest. Or maybe you'll choose a pet carrier, or a purse, or real horse's hay net.

These baskets will proudly be displayed all three days of NAN and have their own special table during the NAN Anniversary party. Each region is encouraged to communicate and coordinate with each other to create something that tells the rest of the world about them. We also encourage a little friendly competition between the different regions for the most imaginative assemblage.

What about our international friends you ask?? Well this year's theme is INCLUSIVE, NOT EXCLUSIVE! Should the Aussies, the Brits, or any other area not already part of NAMHSA wish to participate, we greatly appreciate your support and generosity! Show us how you do things where you're from and promote your uniqueness!

How do you get started? The easiest way to get started is to join your Region's NAMHSA List and start a discussion for your group. Links to all of them can be found here: https://namhsa.org/contacts.htm. The Auction committee, while happy to direct people to others participating in their region, is not organizing these baskets personally. We want to see what your region can do all on its own, and we have complete confidence that they all will be a smash hit! We recommend electing someone from your region as a coordinator to get others involved and organize getting everything together. Feel free to email the Auction coordinator with any questions you may have as well at NAN2010Auction@comcast.net

We greatly anticipate the fun and original ideas that you'll come up with!!

FAQ:

A few commonly asked questions that I have seen asked on more than one list:

#1) Where do we ship items?

A: Each region needs to select someone to collect/receive their items and assemble their basket. Please ship everything to this person, who will then arrange transport to KY with me. All baskets need to arrive to me assembled, with some allowances made for packing for safe shipping.

#2) When do the baskets need to be completed by?

A: I would recommend having all items to your region's organizer by Mid/End of of June. This allows them plenty of time to assemble and allow for any delays in the mail.

#3) When do the baskets need to be to the NAN Auction Coordinator?

A: This depends on the method of transport. There are 3 options:

a) ship to me, and I will take it out to KY with me as I am driving. In this case, all complete baskets must be to me by July 1st.
b) ship to me at the HIN. They MUST arrive by Monday, July 19th, so to be safe you would need to plan for it to arrive the friday or saturday beforehand.
c) deliver to me in person at the HIN on Monday night. If you are hand delivering, I am going to request you not do so on Tuesday am - I will already be insanely crazy at this point in time with both the auction and sweepstakes display set ups as well as getting my own showstring ready for the day.

In all cases, please have the basket in a box so that it can be easily and safely packed and transported. With the amount of things I will be shuttling around, I need to have things in stackable safe boxes.

**special note**: for any basket containing any alcoholic substance, it is NOT legal to ship to KY. These baskets must either be hand delivered, or shipped to me in Oregon.

#4: Can our region do multiple baskets?

A: Unfortunately no. We do not have the time or space allowances for more than one basket per region.

#5: A misconception that has been common: these baskets will NOT be part of the auction, and will NOT be bid on. They will be part of the Sweepstakes and a single winning ticket will be selected for each. Tickets will be available for sale online several weeks prior to the event and you do not need to be present to win. More info on our Sweepstakes will be available later in the spring. YES, we WILL be counting and recording the number of tickets sold for each basket separately and those numbers will be posted publicly after NAN and Breyerfest, so you will know how much $$$ each basket has raised.
